Overall: Greece ranks as the worst performing country in terms of social justice. The country finds itself among the bottom five in all six dimension that comprise this index and ranks last in three of these dimensions (labor market access, social cohesion and non-discrimination, and intergenerational justice). EC: A first assessment of the macroeconomic impact of the refugee influx

Europe is facing an unprecedented influx of asylum seekers, which has put considerable strain on several EU countries. The arrival of large numbers of asylum seekers mirrors global developments where the number of persons displaced by war, conflict or persecution reached a high of nearly 60 million in 2014 according to the UN refugee agency (1), up by more than 8 million compared to 2013. Syria is by now the largest country of origin with 7.6 million persons internally displaced and 3.9 million refugees at the end of 2014, followed by Afghanistan (2.6 million refugees) and Somalia (1.1 million refugees).
